The Nannostomus or pencil fishes are mid- to upper water fish from the rain forrest are ideal fish for the community tank they should be provided with bogwood and plants and a dark substrate like there natural habitat, a few floating plants can also be provided. They are evening feeders which will accept frozen foods but live foods should also be provided where possible, even live brine shrimp can be fed, these will be eaten immediatly. Maintain good water condition with regular water changes. Peat filtration should be used to provide the required pH.
